Life of a 5 year old

A few pics from Avery's birthday weekend. She looked like she had so much fun, and she did! The make your own pizzas and the Pinata were both a hit with the kids, and I don't think I need to even mention how excited they were about the ice cream cake. Not so sure all the candy and cake was such a hit with the parents, but it's all about the kids right?

My little baby isn't so little anymore

My baby turns 5 tomorrow. Five years old, how can this be? Her features are changing, she looks so much more like a little lady (with the soul of a boy). Please don't make the mistake of buying this girl anything with the colour pink in it, because she will say a polite thank-you, but give you the look at the same time. No princess dresses/dolls/party wear of any kind for my girl. Nope, she wants a bounce back racer, Buzz Lightyear doll or some books.

How I love her for all that she is and will become. Trying so hard to do "big girl" things and to grow up so quickly. I want her to hold on to her childhood and not rush, it goes oh so fast.

Happy Birthday Avery.

Avery and I were having a discussion and Avery informed me that she will only get married if her husband will take care of the stinky, poopy diapers because she is not dealing with that. I don't know where she comes up with these things, but she is very serious about it. She cracks me up!

Happy Valentine's Day from Brennyn the barber

Just waiting on my Valentine's Present, Blair is cooking me dinner tonight. It's really a very special gift, because (let's be honest here) he doesn't cook very often. I'm really excited to see what he's making, he's kicked me out of the kitchen.

On another note, Brennyn decided she didn't like her latest haircut and cut herself a new do. Good times, good times. I was in the other room cleaning and thought to myself "it's really quiet in here". Suddenly Avery yells "Brennyn, you can't cut your own hair". I don't think I've ever run so fast, but the damage was done. There was hair everywhere, and Brennyn doesn't have much hair to spare.
Just when her hair was starting to thicken up, and it was looking so cute in a little bob, chop chop.
There are a few bald spots on the side and the top of her head. Who knew that kid craft scissors could substitute as hair scissors.

I need eyes in the back of my head with this girl. She is too curious. You would think I would be aware of this by now. She must be watched at all times!
What can I say, she has some serious personality!!

Now that was a party!

Xin nian kuai le!

We had big celebrations around here. Dinners made at home (from scratch, just saying), dinners out and a little dim sum.
I don't remember the last time we ate so much food, oh wait, that was Christmas.

I think the girls loved the dim sum lunch we went to with a friend's extended family. The dragon dancers were amazing, so many dragons too. The food was excellent. The girls now have more money than I do (can't believe how generous the relatives of my friend were to my girls, I know it's tradition, but wow). We just had such a great time. Oh, and it is not easy to get three girls to look at one camera at the same time, especially in a room with hundreds of people!

We also had a dinner with some of the other local families with Children from China. Unfortunately, all the Chinese restaurants in our town have closed in the last year so we've had to adjust and drive a little. We should have done this years ago, we had some great food again and some great company.

SNOW DAY

Avery is very excited today, it's a snow day! Not only is her bus cancelled, but the school is closed. It's not very often that they actually close schools around here. We live close to the snow belt, we're used to snow.
I was awake at 5:00am, I could hear something and thought one of the girls were walking around. It was ice hitting the windows! This was followed by flashes of lightning, not often we see lightning in a snow storm.
The girls were awake an hour later anyway. Now we are excited to play in the snowstorm.
